Community Based ABA

Keeping in mind the end goals of the family and learner is of the utmost importance when providing quality care no matter the setting. In-home services allow for learning to occur in the person’s own known environment. This can lead to greater carryover with new skills needed.

Through being in the home and in the community, learners are taught critical skills that allow access to needs in the moment which ultimately increase independence and communication and decrease challenging behavior. In-home ABA therapy also allows for convenience and flexible scheduling around the specific need (i.e. dinner time, potty training, morning routine, etc).

One to one (1:1) therapy is conducted by a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). The RBTs implementation of therapy is planned and supervised directly each week by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

Time spent with each learner is highly individualized based upon the person’s specific needs while taking into account the holistic picture. 1:1 therapy leads to significant growth and progress in shorter periods of time. This approach allows for incidental teaching to occur while creating an everyday individualized schedule that enhances growth and happiness.

It is common for any child to interact differently with their family then with others. When in-home is an option, team members can be present to support all family members involved, whether the exchange be exciting or challenging. When choosing in home as a service, ongoing ABA tools and resources are readily available to the entire family.

ABA therapy may be referred after a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It is highly encouraged for the family or policy holder to call the insurance provider to understand the specific plans ABA benefits even if a provider covers this step for you. After a referral, an initial ABA evaluation will take place which consists of assessments, contrived and naturalistic observation, and consultation. Sunshine ABA offers initial consultations in-home as well as a benefit verification check prior to beginning services. Reassessment occurs on a quarterly or 6 month basis to ensure progression and proper oversight is taking place.

The reassessment period includes some of the same materials as the initial assessment to measure data and determine best next steps. The goal of the initial evaluation and reassessment are to create a comprehensive individualized acting treatment plan.

“Our pathways may be different but our end goal is the same.”

Interdisciplinary collaboration among a learners team entirely (i.e. family, caregivers, teachers, other medical providers, etc.) has a direct impact on the therapeutic approach. Collaboration across each entity allows for a consistent response leading to a common end goal much faster.

Collaboration among all parties also leads to transparent communication and time spent efficiently and holistically with each learner. Sunshine ABA incorporates interdisciplinary collaboration weekly and is an essential core value to the organization but most importantly to the success of each learner.

A consultation consists of treatment modification and direct oversight. This consists of one to one time with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) that includes observation, reciprocal feedback, and modeling while conducting therapist trainings and parent trainings. These are completed weekly with the learners assigned RBTs and family members separately and/or together.

RBTs and BCBAs are required by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) to receive minimum hours of supervision and continued education training. RBTs require a minimum of 5% of therapy hours to be directly supervised by a BCBA per month. BCBAs must acquire 32 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) every 2 years. Sunshine ABA offers a free 30 minute initial consultation upon each inquiry.
